The ‘Hidden’ Binding Style That’s Worth Discovering
Recently, an enquiry about a binding style piqued our interest. The request was for Half Canadian binding; a book finish where the cover wraps around the document, hiding the binding wire at the front but exposing it at the back via punched holes.
Half Canadian binding is a style both visually appealing and practical, allowing pages to open flat for ease of reading, while the spine size allows a generous amount of space for text.
We printed the cover full colour digitally on Materica Kraft, a soft yet robust stock that gives it a rustic, contemporary look. The inner pages were printed on 4 different shades of Fedrigoni’s Woodstock and our smooth uncoated stock, giving each section character, and matching the style of the Kraft cover.
Overall, the project was a win-win – we got to use a binding style that doesn’t come along every day, and the customer was very happy with the resulting hand books.
