Four Covers, One Sewn Finish

Four cover stocks, matching threads, and a translucent center spread bring material variation into one carefully planned promotional book.

Commissioned by Crown Creative, the books were produced with four distinct covers. Each features 270gsm Colorplan Plain from GF Smith Papers in a different shade: Bagdad Brown, Imperial Blue, Racing Green, or Harvest.

Cover and binding working together

Left unprinted, the covers allow the stock’s colour and texture to remain visible, enhanced only by a subtle, blind embossed logo without ink or foil.

Each version was bound with thread selected to match its cover. This technique highlights how Singer sewn books achieve a consistent binding method across a set while giving each variant a coordinated finish. With 80 text pages and a translucent insert, the construction sits near the maximum thickness suited for Singer sewn books.

A change of material at the centre

Text pages were digitally printed on the HP Indigo Press using 100gsm Munken Smooth Pure Cream. At the centre, a four-page section of 150gsm Cromatico Pure White introduces a translucent material change. Printed in a single colour on one side, it creates a distinct pause while remaining a seamless part of these Singer sewn books.
